Now that you're in your junior year of high school, it's time to get serious about your future. Get started now on this checklist now, so you're ready to join the Fighting Hawks family. Have questions? Your UND admissions rep has the answers.
Prep for College as a Junior

Use an email account both you and a parent can access that’s specifically used for communication from colleges.

Throughout the college process, you’ll receive emails about important dates and deadlines, financial aid and admission decisions.

- Explore our interactive program finder to learn more about the 225+ fields of study offered at UND.
- Make a list of all the programs that interest you. You can narrow it down later.
- Schedule your virtual or in-person campus visit.
- Make sure you're taking the right mix of high school classes to meet the UND admission requirements. To be accepted to UND, you'll need the following:
- English (4 units)
- Math (3 units of Algebra I or above)
- Lab Science (3 units)
- Social Sciences (3 units)
- 1 additional unit from any category above or world language (including foreign languages, Native American languages or American Sign Language).
- Talk to your counselor and see if dual-credit or AP courses are right for you.
- If you're going to take any Advanced Placement (AP) or other college-level courses in high school, see how they transfer to UND.
- Choose from UND's 115+ Self-Paced Enroll Anytime courses. These online courses cover many of the general education requirements at UND and other colleges. You also could earn high school credits at the same time. Check with your school to find out if dual credit is an option.
- Get to know your UND admissions rep.
- Consider taking the ACT or the SAT. Ask your counselor for details and helpful resources.
- UND does not require the ACT or SAT for admission. However, we still encourage you to take the ACT or SAT to qualify for some outside scholarships.
- Send your test scores directly to UND by indicating: ACT code = 3218 | SAT code = 6878
- Research the costs for college. UND's combined tuition, fees and room / meal plans cost $3,000 less per year than the national average for doctoral universities.
- Learn about financial aid (scholarships, grants, employment and loan programs) and how it can help you pay for college. UND offers $100 million annually in aid.
Get Ready for College During Senior Year
- Apply to UND beginning Aug. 1 for the next fall.
- UND's priority deadline for admission and scholarship consideration is Feb. 1.
- At UND, you need at 3.5+ GPA to qualify for an automatic academic scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $14,000.
- Beginning Oct. 1, complete the following:
- FAFSA
- Use your income taxes to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the Feb. 1 priority deadline.
- Send UND your FAFSA information by using school code 003005.
- Apply early for your best chance to receive grants and scholarships (aka free money)!
- Scholarship Central
- Once you're admitted, apply by Feb. 1 for 975+ UND scholarships with one application through Scholarship Central.
- Each year, undergrads share more than $100 million in financial aid. Visit the scholarships webpage for a list of available UND scholarships.
- Housing
- Once you're admitted, apply early for on-campus housing for your best chance to get the room you want.
- FAFSA
- Confirm you're attending UND.
- Pay the $200 nonrefundable enrollment confirmation deposit by May 1 or as soon as possible.
- If you miss the May date, this is not an extra charge, but rather, it's applied toward your first semester's bill.

- Get advised and registered for classes for your first semester.
- Attend orientation.
