The Tax Practitioners' Institute is a two day overview Group-Live and Group-Internet Based Program. There are no prerequisites or advanced preparation needed for this course. This course is recommended for Certified Public Accountants, Registered Tax Return Preparers, Enrolled Agents, Insurance Providers, Financial Planners and Lawyers.  The program knowledge level of the Institute is considered to be basic.  One copy of the 2015 Federal Tax Workbook is included in your participant registration fee. Additional books can be purchased for $75 each.

  • Review updates in tax law and legislation
  • Examine IRS updates
  • Analyze agricultural tax issues

Course Description:

This instructor led, two-day course is a tax update seminar focused on various current developments in federal taxation, tax planning opportunities, and tax compliance issues. This course is intended for tax professionals and is designed to provide up-to-date information on federal tax updates and federal tax law.

Day One is a tax update seminar focused on various current developments in federal taxation, tax planning opportunities, and tax compliance issues. This instructor led course will cover many topics including New Legislation, Rulings and Cases, Capitalization or Repair, Small Business Issues, Entity Selection, Passive Activities, Individual Taxpayer Issues, and Marriage Tax Aspects.

Day one will also include an  IRS Update  from Ann Makres, from the Internal Revenue Service.  Ann will cover updates to federal tax programs and procedures.  This instructor led course will cover many topics including the Streamlined Application for Tax Exempt Status, Correspondence Audits, Electronic Filing, the Taxpayer Advocate Service, Offer-in-Compromise, and current updates.

Day Two is intended for tax professionals and is designed to provide up-to-date training on current tax law and regulations. The program will provide insight into recently enacted legislation, recent rulings and cases of relevance to tax practice, and ag-specific tax issues including those associated with the cash method of accounting, tax issues associated with easement payments, and the post-death sale of livestock, unharvested crops and land.  Current developments with respect to the 2010 health care law and its impact on small businesses and their employees will be addressed. Also addressed will be foreign asset disclosure issues, trust accounting and taxation, education-related tax issues and tax issues for taxpayer with oil and gas interests. 

Ethics Course Objectives:

  • Discuss ethical considerations
  • Examine rules and regulations governing the tax profession

Ethics Course Description:

We will also be offering a two hour Ethics Course on Day One. This instructor lead course on ethics is designed to help the tax return preparer understand ethical considerations including best practices, ACA abuse potential, information security, and issues related to 1099s, W-2's, and reasonable compensation. The rules and regulations governing the tax profession and the practical application of these rules in the daily operation of their businesses will be discussed including the compliance requirements of Treasury Department Circular 230 in their practice before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
