Course Overview

The Tax Practitioners' Institute is a two day overview Group-Live and Group-Internet Based Program. There are no prerequisites or advanced preparation needed for this course.  This course is recommended for Certified Public Accountants, Registered Tax Return Preparers, Enrolled Agents, Insurance Providers, Financial Planners and Lawyers.  The program knowledge level of the Institute is considered to be basic.  One copy of the 2016 Federal Tax Workbook is included in your participant registration fee. Additional books can be purchased for $75 each.

Course Description

This instructor led, two-day course is a tax update seminar focused on various current developments in federal taxation, tax planning opportunities, and tax compliance issues. This course is intended for tax professionals and is designed to provide up-to-date information on federal tax updates and federal tax law.

Day One is a tax update seminar focused on various current developments in federal taxation, tax planning opportunities, and tax compliance issues. This instructor led course will cover many topics including Rulings and Cases (Part 1), S Corporations Entity Issues, S Corporations Shareholder Issues, Small Business Issues, Individual Taxpayer Issues, and Retirement.

Day one will also include an IRS Update  from Ann Makres, from the Internal Revenue Service.  Ann will cover updates to federal tax programs and procedures.  This instructor led course will cover many topics including identity theft, withholding agent responsibility, the early intervention initiative, and the IRS Future State initiative.

Day Two is intended for tax professionals and is designed to provide up-to-date training on current tax law and regulations. The program will provide insight into recently enacted legislation, recent rulings and cases of relevance to tax practice, and ag-specific tax issues. Also addressed will be wealth accumulation and preservation and rural investments.

Ethics Course Description

We will also be offering a two hour Ethics Course on Day One. This instructor lead course on ethics is designed to help the tax return preparer understand ethical considerations. The focus will be on conflicts of interest including partnership entity with father and children each with very different tax circumstances, representation of corporation versus shareholder, preparation of individual returns for divorced clients and injured spouse situations, furnishing tax information of clients to other preparers within the same firm and outside the firm, and preparer firm representation of both sides of a transaction and need for conflict procedures. The rules and regulations governing the tax profession and the practical application of these rules in the daily operation of their businesses will be discussed including the compliance requirements of Treasury Department Circular 230 in their practice before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
