The Tax Practitioners' Institute is a two day overview Group-Live and Group-Internet Based Program. There are no prerequisites or advanced preparation needed for this course. This course is recommended for Certified Public Accountants, Registered Tax Return Preparers, Enrolled Agents, Insurance Providers, Financial Planners and Lawyers.

This instructor led, two-day course is a tax update seminar focused on various current developments in federal taxation, tax planning opportunities, and tax compliance issues. This course is intended for tax professionals and is designed to provide up-to-date information on federal tax updates and federal tax law.
Day One is a tax update seminar focused on various current developments in federal taxation, tax planning opportunities, and tax compliance issues. This instructor led course will cover many topics including New Legislation, Rulings and Cases, Small Business, Partnership Taxation, Financial Distress, Estimated Taxes, Reporting Miscellaneous Income, Special Taxpayers (including hospitality industry taxpayers, tax rules for dependents, and home-based businesses), and Compliance Target Areas.
Day one will also include an IRS Update from Ann Makres, from the Internal Revenue Service. Ann will cover updates to federal tax programs and procedures. This instructor led course will cover many topics including www.irs.gov online tools, cancellation of debt, ITIN program changes, e-service updates, and IRS campus functions.
Day Two is intended for tax professionals and is designed to provide up-to-date training on current tax law and regulations. The program will provide insight into recently enacted legislation, recent rulings and cases of relevance to tax practice, and ag-specific tax issues. Current developments with respect to the 2010 health care law will be addressed as will tax issues associated with inherited assets and gifted property. Particular Form 4797 reporting issues will be covered as will the hobby loss rules, the tax issues associated with clergy, transportation workers and military personnel.
We will also be offering a two hour Ethics Course on Day one. This instructor lead course on ethics is designed to help the tax return preparer understand the newly promulgated rules and regulations governing the tax profession and the practical application of these rules in the daily operation of their businesses. It also illustrates the compliance requirements of Treasury Department Circular 230 in their practice before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Topics covered include IRS requirements concerning due diligence, confidentiality of client information, and professional conduct. A review of the potential sanctions and IRS tax return preparer penalties will round out the discussion.
There are no prerequisites or advanced preparation needed to attend the Institute.
