Career Information
Upon completion of the Psychiatric & Mental Health Track, you will be an advanced practice nurse who is eligible to be certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Upon certification, you will be prepared to practice psychiatric mental health nursing, including mental health promotion and prevention, in:
- clinics
- hospitals
- educational systems
- community agencies
Depending on which certification exam you write and in which state you want to practice, you may perform therapy and medication management in an independent practice with the supervision of a collaborating psychiatrist.
Job Prospects
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, overall job prospects are expected to be excellent for advanced practice nurses, particularly in medically underserved areas such as inner cities and rural areas.
