The International Peer Mentor program is designed to assist incoming international students to adapt better to a new environment and academic system. The program is intended to bring American and International Students closer together in order to increase cross-cultural experiences on both sides. Peer Mentors will go through training where they will learn about learning styles, group dynamics and team management. Peer Mentors will be the direct contact person for a group of 3-5 international students. This includes airport pickup, shopping trips, campus tour and more if the mentor chooses to. Peer Mentors are leaders in an intercultural context and support new international students with their knowledge and expertise.
Appointment: 6 weeks during Fall Semester (from the middle of August until the end of September) plus pre-arrival email communication with students during June/July/August.
Time Commitment: Approximately 10-15 hours during the week of international student orientation, and 2-4 hours per week for the following weeks, hours can be negotiated and will depend on your mentees’ needs. Email time varies.
