Be a Mentor
The International Peer Mentor program is designed to assist incoming international students to adapt better to a new environment and academic system. The program is intended to bring American and International Students closer together in order to increase cross-cultural experiences on both sides. Peer Mentors will go through training where they will learn about learning styles, group dynamics and team management. Peer Mentors will be the direct contact person for a group of 3-5 international students. This includes airport pickup, shopping trips, campus tour and more if the mentor chooses to. Peer Mentors are leaders in an intercultural context and support new international students with their knowledge and expertise.
Appointment: 6 weeks during Fall Semester (from the middle of August until the end of September) plus pre-arrival email communication with students during June/July/August.
Time Commitment: Approximately 10-15 hours during the week of international student orientation, and 2-4 hours per week for the following weeks, hours can be negotiated and will depend on your mentees’ needs. Email time varies.

Position Requirements:
- Participation in International Peer Mentor Training (April 12th and 13th)
- Contact mentees via email and answer questions
- Be in Grand Forks by August 15th for airport/bus and train station pick up of mentees
- Participation in International Student Orientation (Aug. 18th-23rd, tentatively)
- Attending the International Peer Mentor Reception
Application Process:
- Complete the Fall 2013 International Peer Mentor application
by Monday, March 11, 2013

- Have the recommendation form completed by someone who has been in a supervisory role for one of your previous work or volunteer experiences. (recommendation forms are not required for returning peer mentors)
- If selected, you will be contacted for an interview in late March.
- The dates for Peer Mentor Training this year will be April 12th and 13th at the International Centre.
