Employment (for the purposes of maintaining your status) is receiving compensation of any form in exchange for performing a task or providing a service.

Employment eligibility for F-1 and J-1 status students is divided into two basic categories: On campus employment and off-campus employment.

M-1 status students are not allowed to work during their studies.

The most common types of employment authorization for F-1 and J-1 students are listed to the right. After reading the information about the employment options, you may contact an International Student Advisor to discuss your options in more detail.
