Where did you go? When?
I studied at the American College of Norway in Moss, Norway in the Spring of 2007.
Why did you pick the program and location?
I've always wanted to study abroad and the only place I could go abroad as a freshman was Norway. In addition I have many relatives in Norway and Sweden, so it was a great opportunity to see where my relatives came from.
Would you recommend this location to another student and why?
Norway was absolutely amazing!! I loved my experience while studying at ACN. I learned so much more about culture, language, and the world by studying here. I found myself speaking Norwegian with everyone and applying it to everyday activities.
What was your most memorable experience/day/moment?
My most memorable experience was when we went to Oslo and was in the audience for the Norwegian version of Deal or No Deal.
What was the worst experience/day?
The worst experience was when I was sick in Italy. I was sick the entire 10 days that we were there and ended up going to the doctor's office as well.
What are the benefits of studying abroad? (Personal/ academic)
When you study abroad you will learn so much about yourself. Being so far away from my family I learned to be more independent and I managed my own life. I had to find hotels, ask for directions, figure out transportation routes all on my own. I have great cross communication skills and a better understanding of another culture. There's a huge difference learning something in the classroom and actually experiencing it hands on. Studying abroad gives you hands on experience with history, language, and culture. By studying abroad you put yourself above other applicants as well when looking for employment. You are actually applying what you learn in the classroom.
What advice would you give to somebody considering studying abroad?
Do it!! When employers look through applications they look for things that stand out and studying abroad does just that. It's a great learning opportunity that everyone should take advantage of. You will learn a lot about yourself and learn skills that will be helpful for any career position that you pursue.
