The UND-Quebec exchange program offers students the opportunity to study at nearly twenty participating universities throughout the Canadian province of Quebec, including both French and English-speaking institutions. Intensive French language courses are also available. Quebec is one of the largest provinces of Canada and the only one where the French language takes precedence over English. However, English is widely spoken in the vibrant metropolis of Montreal, and to a lesser degree, in beautiful historic Quebec City, the oldest fortified town in North America. Students looking for complete immersion in a francophone community choose to study in smaller towns like Trois-Rivieres or Chicoutimi.
