Law Student Employment
Disclaimer:
The UND School of Law strongly recommends that first-year law students refrain from seeking employment in addition to their coursework.
Balancing a job while you go to school can be an excellent way to earn money, learn time management skills, and develop your professional skills. There are a number of jobs available on campus specifically for students, as well as other opportunities within the Grand Forks community.

Federal Work Study (FWS)
Federal Work Study may be available to you as an undergraduate student if you demonstrate financial need through your FAFSA. A work study award indicates that you are eligible to seek FWS employment; however, it is not a guarantee of a job. The average FWS award is $2,800 per academic year.
There are approximately 2,000 UND students hired through FWS each year. Jobs span across the entire campus and to some eligible off-campus employers as well. Positions may vary from clerical work to research, from service to security.

Institutional Employment (INST)
Institutional Employment may be available to you as an undergraduate student if you are enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours). It is not based on financial need. Positions are available on campus and wages vary depending on the job.

Job Location and Development
This is a cooperative effort between Job Service of North Dakota and UND to refer students to part-time employment with area businesses. These are all off-campus positions.
