First-Year Students
Ready to apply to UND? It's easy. You can apply in 5 steps or less!
UND will accept your application up to 1 year in advance of the semester you plan to start. Applications are currently being accepted for the Summer 2013, Fall 2013, and Spring 2014 Semesters. The earlier you apply and are admitted, the more options you'll have for:
NOTE: If you have 24+ transferable college-level credits, you must follow the admissions requirements and application process for transfer students.
University Admission Standards
As a first-year student (with fewer than 24 college-level credits), your admission to UND is based on your:
- high school GPA
- ACT or SAT score*
- successful completion of the following courses:*
- English (4 units)
- Math (3 units of Algebra I or above)
- Lab Science (3 units)
- Social Studies (3 units)
*If you are 25+ years old on the first day of class, you are exempt from meeting these requirements.
Automatic Admission for Summer 2013, Fall 2013, and Spring 2014

IMPORTANT!! Please note that the current admission standards for new students entering UND in Fall 2014 or later are under review by the North Dakota University System. Future changes will be posted to this site and shared with high school principals in the region.
Program Requirements
Depending on your major, some programs may have additional requirements beyond the general university admission standards. Refer to the UND Academic Catalog, visit the department website, or contact an advisor for more information.
Step 1: Apply Online by February 5
Complete the UND Undergraduate Admissions Application and submit the $35 (U.S. funds) non-refundable application fee.
You also may mail a printed application and the application fee to:

To be considered automatically for the UND Freshman Scholarship, you must be admitted by February 5.
Note: If you have not already created your VIP at UND account, you will need to create an account to access the online application form.
Step 2: Send Your Transcripts
Send your official high school transcripts to:

IF you have completed any college-level credits, submit your official college transcripts to UND Office of Admissions at the address above.
Step 3: Submit Your ACT or SAT Scores*
If you're under the age of 25, request that your official standardized test scores be sent to UND Office of Admissions:
- ACT Scores = UND Code #3218
- SAT Math & Verbal Scores = UND Code #6878
*If you are 25+ years old on the first day of class OR you have 24+ transferable college credits, you are not required to submit ACT or SAT test scores. However, if you have taken the ACT or SAT, it is highly recommended that you submit your official scores to the UND Office of Admissions for proper placement into English and math courses.
Step 4: Complete Residence Hall Application
If you are interested in living in one of the UND residence halls, complete your online application or mail the printed application and the non-refundable $35 (U.S. funds) housing application fee to:

Note: If you are mailing your admissions and housing applications together, you may send both application forms and a single check for $70 (U.S. funds) non-refundable application fees to the UND Office of Admissions.
Apply early! You may submit your housing application up to 1 year in advance of your move-in date. Residence hall housing is not guaranteed.
Step 5: Apply for Financial Aid by April 1
If you plan to apply for financial aid programs, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the only application UND requires to determine your eligibility for federal and state financial aid.
The FAFSA school code for UND is 003005.
Apply early! You should submit your FAFSA no later than April 1 to ensure that it is processed by the North Dakota priority date of April 15.
Please note that FAFSA applications are available after January 1 of the year you will enter UND.
