Sol Jensen, Assistant Vice President of Admissions & Financial Aid
Growing up in the Midwest, I'm excited to be back "home" after spending the past 9+ years in the pacific northwest. These first few months have been a whirlwind getting up to speed, but as I settle in now, I'm looking forward to opportunities to meet with many of the counselors from all over the region.
To further our commitment to improving retention and graduation rates (and closely mirroring increased standards and expectations being supported by the State Board of Higher Education), the University of North Dakota is continuing its efforts to increase the academic quality of its incoming class by making a couple of changes beginning this Fall 2014 entering term.
In addition to GPA and test score criteria, many applicants will now receive a more holistic admission review (grade trends, GPA in core classes, and academic rigor of their coursework). This process will allow us to better predict each student's likelihood of academic success at UND based on these additional factors. You know these students best, so please feel free to reach out if you'd like to advocate for any students who you feel may be successful.
Beyond the new $6,000 scholarship just announced for Fall 2014, efforts are under way to revamp other scholarship programs for Fall 2015, with an emphasis on providing awards for more students who not only possess strong academic merit, but demonstrated leadership qualities. So please stay tuned as we'll be in touch as these plans become finalized.
Thanks for all of the important (and often unappreciated) work that you do. My team and I look forward to doing all we can to serve you—and your students. Please don't hesitate to contact me at sol.jensen@UND.edu or 701.777.3885 if there is anything I can do to assist.
