The second On Teaching lunch seminar of the spring, "Get Your Students to Grade their Own Papers: Collaboratively-Designed Rubrics," takes place Wednesday, Feb. 8, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Badlands Room, Memorial Union.
There are many good reasons to include students in the design of the rubric used to grade their writing. One key benefit is the opportunity for students to learn to evaluate their own and others' work. Another benefit is the positive learning environment that can be created when teachers and students share responsibility.
In this On Teaching seminar, we will look at a range of ways to include students in the assessment process, including models from the literature and from our colleagues in the room. We will also discuss current writing assessment theory and how student involvement fits in. To jump start the conversation, Jessica Zerr will share her ongoing experience with collaboratively-designed rubrics.
Please register by noon Monday, Feb. 6, to attend and reserve a lunch. Click here to register. For information, contact Jana Lagro at 777-4998 or jana.lagro@und.edu.
