The second On Teaching Lunch Seminar of Fall 2012 takes place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Memorial Union Badlands Room.

In this session we’ll talk about both grading and assessment — how they can differ, intersect, and mesh. We will move beyond basic definitions to look at the ways in which grading and assessment can most productively overlap, how we can assess in ways that allows us to be more effective in our grading, and how the work of grading and assessment can be more intellectually engaging for us as teachers. From ungraded assessments that are likely to produce greater student learning results to grading practices that best measure that learning, we’ll look at a range of practices that have proven to be effective. And, we’d like to hear what you have found works well for your classes and programs, too.
