Discussion Series: (de)constructing race, difference & the practice of law
Facilitators: Profs. Balgamwalla & Christensen
• To create space for conversations about meaningful difference
• To examine and better appreciate how individuals experience the law and its effects
• To provide participants with language and references to critically engage as legal professionals with structures and hierarchies perpetuated by the law
This discussion series provides space for students to explore and discuss the role of lawyers from the perspective of those disproportionately affected and harmed by legal systems and institutions. Each discussion will center on a short reading or "text" that will serve as a central point for discussion. These sessions will occur on select Fridays 11:30-12:30, following the Professional Foundations course; they are optional, not for credit, and open to all who are willing to listen deeply and engage respectfully with these topics and the lived experiences of others.
