Join us as we recognize and celebrate the unique and tremendous contributions our New American neighbors provide to our community when the Town Square Farmer’s Market, in collaboration with Global Friends Coalition, hosts the 9th annual World Refugee Day on Saturday June 17, 2017. The first Farmer’s Market of the summer opens at 9:00am and World Refugee Day programming begins at 10:00am.
Enjoy entertainment provided by New Americans from the Grand Forks community, including performances from English language learners participating in Summer Performing Arts at Winship Elementary School and Red River High School, in addition to cultural music, singing, and dance. There also will be opportunities to learn more about the refugee resettlement process, the countries New Americans in our community came from, cultural dress, customs, and traditions, and how community members can get involved.
Immediately following the conclusion of programming at 12:00pm, stay for the Immigrant Integration Initiative’s presentation of Let’s Talk! Let’s Talk is a community conversation centered around the processes and services involved in refugee resettlement, as well as the personal stories of triumph and tribulation from our New American neighbors. Questions from community members in the audience are welcomed and encouraged throughout the discussion.
