Promoting Communities Panel

How do you get the word out and promote your community and celebrations? Share your ideas and learn best practices in promoting your community without spending a fortune. 

Todd Morgan (todd@morganprinting.com) has been with the Walsh County Record for 16, nine of those as editor. A native of Grafton, he is a member of the 4th generation of Morgans in the newspaper business. Todd attended NDSU and South Dakota State University, where he majored in printing management. He worked in the printing industry for 10 years before returning to his hometown and family newspaper.

Heather Bushaw (heather.bushaw@und.edu) is a social networking and media specialist and the University of North Dakota.

Alie Chandler (alyssa.chandler@my.und.edu) is a graduate student in the Communication Program at the University of North Dakota. She is interested in community development and is beginning her thesis work on building social capital through community branding.

Anita Hovland (hovlands@ictc.com) lives on a farm near Ayr, N.D. She was the City Auditor for Buffalo from 1996-2007. In 2003, she started administering the Buffalo website thru the Development Authority. Anita currently works as an assistant to the auditor for the City of Casselton, but still does Buffalo's website. She finds itto be a wonderful way to stay active in the community and be a local resource.

Logan Davis (logand_us@yahoo.com) is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. He currently serves as the public relations officer for the band.

Dean Ihla (dihla@nd.gov) is the Tourism Development Manager for the North Dakota Department of Commerce - Tourism Division.He works with communities and organizations across the state to identify opportunities and support the start-up, retention, expansion and attraction of businesses in the tourism industry. Prior to accepting this newly created position, Dean's experience included ten years of working with businesses and promoting tourism as Director of the Bottineau and Valley City Chambers of Commerce.
