Individual Academic Skills Assistance

The University Learning Center provides individual assistance to help all students achieve academic success while at the University of North Dakota.

Learning Specialists are available to help students who are experiencing academic difficulty. Students receive one-on-one help to improve academic skills and become successful. Appointments are required.

Possible concerns:

  • Study techniques.
  • Test strategies.
  • Exam preparation.
  • Test Anxiety Screening
  • Specific skills such as note-taking or textbook reading.
  • Basic word processing instruction.
  • Time management problems.
  • Better use of personal learning styles.
  • Tutoring needs.

Students may seek answers to whatever questions may arise in their academic pursuits.

Assessment of students' reading comprehension, vocabulary, study habits and learning styles is included in the Introduction to Effective Study credit course, but may also be arranged for any individual student who wants these assessments.

A Learning Specialist will interpret the results for the student and answer any questions the student may have as to individual implications of the results. The Learning Specialists may also be helpful in suggesting course scheduling that reflects academic potential in light of individual assessment.
