UND Student Life
Spring, summer, winter or fall the University of North Dakota Wellness Center has got it all.
With the 2013-2014 academic year in full swing, the UND Wellness Center decided to make it easier for students, faculty and staff to get active while enjoying the great outdoors.
The Wellness Center recently added "The Outpost" station where students can rent out canoes and kayaks, bikes, winter gear, camping supplies, stove and cook gear, as well as backyard games.
The Outpost's purpose is to encourage people to exercise while having fun, all within the comfort of nature.
The Outpost does more than just provide the gear. It also provides a list of recreation resources where people can use the equipment, such as the Grand Forks Greenway and various state parks.
The Outpost replaces the Lifetime sports station located in the Memorial Union.
Those looking to rent out equipment are encouraged to look on the wellness center website for a list of prices. The full rental amount is due at the time of reservation.
Before using the equipment, the user should inspect it for any previous damage. All items are expected to be returned in clean, working shape.
If you have not used an item but want to learn how, Wellness Center staff is on hand for a short but informative lesson.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to make suggestions on what new equipment they would like to see offered.
The most recent piece of equipment added has been hockey skates, just in time for the winter season. They are available to rent in various sizes.
The Outpost aligns with UND's Seven Dimensions of Wellness and, specifically, enhances the environmental, physical and social components of wellness.
