This list identifies areas within specific UND buildings that would be preferred locations for taking shelter during tornado and severe weather warnings. The locations listed were selected because they are generally accessible to all persons in the specific building (without a key), and have positive shelter characteristics based on Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) guidelines. It is likely that other areas within the buildings would also provide good shelter options providing building occupants have the necessary keys to unlock the spaces. With this in mind, building occupants with keys may wish to identify/use additional spaces for which they have access. Generally shelter locations are on the lowest possible floor of a substantial building, in small to mid-size interior rooms or hallways, away from glass/windows. Individuals with questions about the adequacy of additional shelter locations not included in this list can consult with the UND Environmental Health & Safety Office at 701-777-3341.
