2015 Ken & Toby Baker UND Proud Award
Sharley Kurtz, Instructional Designer, College of Nursing
This year’s award winner has been described as “one of the people who make UND Exceptional”, and “a very giving person”. It has been said that with all that they are involved in on campus, they continue to put away any personal feelings/beliefs and exhibit what is crucial to UND. Not only is this person committed to service at UND and for UND, they are committed to many outside activities that serve the community that we live in.
This employee has volunteered with Relay for Life, Circle of Friends Human Society, and Meals on Wheels. She hosted a foreign exchange student. As part of that student’s requirements for being in the country, the student had to do some community service. This employee was right there with her student volunteering. They cleaned up their neighborhood, helped rebuild Sherlock Park and helped prepare food packets for Feed My Starving Children.
Currently, this employee serves as the President of UND Staff Senate. In this capacity she works tirelessly in support of staff. In this role she devotes a huge amount of her time to matters of widespread importance to UND. Her varied committee service, her role relative to the nickname and logo transition and her leadership for the SOAR process, are all excellent examples of ways in which she does much more than her instructional design position requires.
