Alcohol & Substance Abuse Presentations
The following is a list of presentations on Alcohol and Substance Abuse Topics available to be presented to your group by the Health & Wellness Peer Educators. To request any presentation, please fill out this form.
Alcohol 101
An all-encompassing view of responsible use, including 0-1-2-3, tolerance, trigger level, etc. (all the vital information regarding alcohol use). This presentation is 20-30 minutes. (There is no equipment needed for this presentation).
CHOICES
CHOICES is a non-judgmental, interactive alcohol education class. The CHOICES program involves a 45-minute presentation. It is presented in a non-confrontational manner that enables students to make their own decisions about alcohol consumption. Because the central focus of this program is to help students make informed choices, the class is set up to provide participants with information. Participants are then asked to apply what they have learned in a series of self-reflective questions. (We ask that a white board or large poster board and markers are provided for this presentation).
Toss Your Cookies
A fun, interactive presentation where participants are asked to put on beer goggles and literally toss cookies (or cookie beanbags) into a makeshift toilet. Additionally, participants will be taught about responsible use and the desirables/undesirables of high-risk drinking. This presentation is 30-45 minutes. (There is no equipment needed for this presentation).
Obstacle Course
This presentation is exactly as the name sounds – it’s an obstacle course that can be in any residence hall, meeting room, classroom, etc.! However, there is a catch – the participants are going through the obstacle course wearing beer goggles! In addition to just a fun time, participants will be able to learn about BAC, tolerance, the biphasic response, 0-1-2-3, etc. This presentation is 45-60 minutes. (You can feel free to design an obstacle course however you wish; otherwise, the peer educators from our office can design the course. There is no equipment “required” for this presentation).
Alcohol Jeopardy
A variation of America’s favorite quiz show, Alcohol Jeopardy will teach participants about a wide variety of alcohol-related topics: alcohol and college; the effects of alcohol; the law; women and alcohol; alcoholism; etc. This presentation is 20-30 minutes. (A computer, projector, and presentation screen are needed for this presentation).
Watch Your BAC!
This presentation will teach participants how to watch their BAC by showing them what BAC is, the BAC scale, what affects BAC, standard drinks, tolerance, BAC and emotional states, etc. This presentation is 30-45 minutes. (A computer, projector, and presentation screen are needed for this presentation).
Myths
This presentation explains the 6 myths that alcohol advertisers want YOU to believe: 1) drinking is risk free; 2) you can’t survive without drinking; 3) problem drinking behaviors are normal; 4) alcohol is a magic potion that can transform you; 5) sports and alcohol go together; and 6) alcoholic beverage companies promote moderation in drinking! This presentation is 30-45 minutes. (A computer, projector, and presentation screen are needed for this presentation).
Presentations on other topics available by request.
