The Health & Wellness Unit believes that academic success starts with wellness success. The following resources were collected to encourage a culture of wellness and life balance in the lives of UND students.
Spiritual Wellness
Whether it is involving yourself in religious activities, meditation, or engulfing yourself with art and music, spiritual wellness is an integral component of wellness. Research has consistently indicated that spirituality cannot only help people recover from serious illness, but it can help people live longer and enjoy life more.
Tips for optimal spiritual wellness:
- Explore your spiritual core
- Spend time alone/meditate regularly
- Be inquisitive and curious
- Be fully present in everything you do
- Listen with your heart and live by your principles

Always remember the 3 R’s of consumerism:
- Reduce the amount of pollution you generate
- Reuse containers, bags and batteries
- Recycle paper, glass, aluminum, and plastic
Tips for optimal environmental wellness:
- Stop your junk mail
- Conserve water and other resources
- Minimize chemical use
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
- Renew your relationship with the earth
- Whenever possible, don’t buy what you don’t need
- To cut down on pollution, walk, ride your bike, or car-pool whenever possible
- Always turn your lights and appliances off when not using them
- Encourage your student organization to be environmentally sustainable

Woodway EcoMil Treadmills: The EcoMill is totally self-powered; a green alternative to motorized treadmills. The onboard generator system produces power for the display and can be used to charge a phone or mp3 player with the USB charge station. Workout in an eco-friendly way!

Social Wellness
Recent studies have indicated the importance of social relationships in one’s life. Feeling alone can have negative effects on your emotional/psychological wellness and it can adversely affect your physical wellness as well. Friends can serve as a source of encouragement and reinforcement for practicing healthy habits such as proper nutrition and exercise, and abstaining from risky behaviors such as smoking and drinking.
