What is Personal Training?
UND Wellness Center personal training focuses on the physical dimension of health and wellness. Wellness Center Personal Trainers are nationally certified, which means they are held to a higher standard of care than your workout buddy, including confidential training. They are ready to develop an exercise program specifically for you and to inspire you to an elevated level of physical fitness.

How do I get started?
To get started with a personal trainer, schedule your FREE Goal Consultation to talk to a personal trainer about your medical history, lifestyle, and personal goals. A goal consultation is an opportunity for you to meet with a certified personal trainer absolutely free of charge! This session is used for you and your trainer to discuss any and all of your goals, questions or concerns relating to fitness and wellness. If you are curious to see if personal training is right for you, a Goal Consultation is a great way to find out. If you're ready to get started, you'll then get scheduled for a Comprehensive Fitness Assessment. This is done to ensure that you receive a quality personal fitness program and are medically ready for exercise. Your health and well-being is always our highest priority! To schedule one, stop by the Fitness desk, located within the weight floor of the Wellness Center or call 777-3417.
Policies
- All participants must currently be active members of the Wellness Center.
- All packages/services purchased will expire after 8 weeks unless specified otherwise.
- Appointments must be cancelled or rescheduled 24 hours in advance or you will forfeit your session.

This package is perfect for the person who wants to kick-start their fitness routine and includes:
- Comprehensive Fitness Assessment

Your Personal Program
A personal trainer will develop an exercise program, specifically to fit your goals that you will be able to follow on your own for the following 8 weeks.
Phase I
In Phase I of this package you will receive:
- Comprehensive Fitness Assessment
- 2 Personal Training Session
- Personal Exercise Program (8 weeks)
- Cost: $125
Phase II
Can be purchased after completion of Phase I and includes:
- 1 Personal Training Session/Reassessment
- Further Program Design (8 weeks)
- Cost: $55
Healthy Habits
For those interested in general personal training, we offer reduced rates when you buy more than one personal training session at a time. A Comprehensive Fitness Assessment is required before any personal training sessions can be purchased.
1 Session $23 (Expires after 2 weeks)
3 Sessions $65 (Expires after 3 weeks)
6 Sessions $125 (Expires after 6 weeks)
10 Sessions $210 (Expires after 10 weeks)

Group Training
We offer personal training for small groups that have similar fitness goals. Not only do you get to exercise with friends or family, but you get to do so at a reduced cost! A Comprehensive Fitness Assessment is required before any personal training sessions can be purchased.

Comprehensive Fitness Assessment
The Comprehensive Fitness Assessment is a thorough evaluation of your general wellness, body composition, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. This assessment is required for all personal training packages.

Cardio Assessment
With this package, a personal trainer will assess your cardiovascular fitness. There is the option to purchase an 8-week program design based upon your results to maximize your cardio workouts.

Meet the Trainers
Shawn Reich
Certifications/Education: National Strength and Conditioning Association-Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT)/Degree in Exercise Science/Graduate Research Assistant
Goals: To help individuals achieve their health and wellness goals as well as improving their dimensions of wellness. Staying active gives me a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. I want to be able to bring that same sense of achievement to others.
Experience: Over 5 years of experience in strength and conditioning.
Motto: "Train hard, but train smart."

Personal: I am from Grand Forks, ND and am currently working on my Masters of Science Degree in Kinesiology. I am also a Graduate Research Assistant in the field of Kinesiology.
Deb Vein
Certifications/Education: International Sports Sciences Association, Fitness Specialist Certification, Strength Training Certification
Goals: To provide fun and effective way to improve overall quality of life to my clients. To also help build overall confidence, strength, flexible, balance, and cardiovascular endurance.
Experience: 17 years, working with individuals of all ages.
Motto: You're never too old to start exercising to improve your quality of life.
Personal: Lived in the Grand Forks area all my life. Married to Ken Vein, Altru Health Systems; three children, Nicole, Tom and Dan.
Dori Hardee
Certifications/Education: AFAA-CPT, NESTA Certified Nutrition Coach, Core Power Yoga, Kettlebell & Bootcamp Certifications
Goals: To aid each individual to their current health and fitness goals while also motivating that person to exceed their perceived limits!!
Experience: 3 years--- time with athletic republic, cycle, personal training, group strength.
Motto: You will never know your limits unless you push past them.... Surprise yourself.
Personal: Orginally from Maryland, lived in New Mexico for 9 years, North Dakota for 4. Married with 2 boys (5 and 1 years old).

Jason McCoy
Certifications/Education: ACE (American Council on Exercise) Personal Trainer, Senior in Community Nutrition and Exercise Science at UND
Goals: I always aim to help the client reach their goals for optimum health and fitness.
Experience: I have personally lost over 80 lbs and transformed my own body through successfully implementing a healthful diet and exercise routine.
Motto: Consistency will always pay. What kind of paycheck will your habits earn today?
Personal: I am currently a senior at UND, double majoring in Community Nutrition & Exercise Science. I am also obtaining a minor in Health Education. I am employed at UND's Wellness Center as a Personal Trainer and a chef for Culinary Corner. I'm also actively raising my daughter. Upon graduation, I intend to pursue a Master's of Public Health and then continue on with a PhD in Nutrition & Education. My career goal is two-fold, I would like to teach nutrition and exercise at a collegiate level and I would like to be involved in civil government developing policies to encourage healthy eating and exercise in our community.
