The Honors Program believes it is important for students to be engaged, active members of their communities, and that service to those communities provides valuable learning experience. As such, Civic Engagement is part of the educational mission of the Program.
Honors students demonstrate their citizenship by participating in Honors-sponsored service projects at UND and in the larger community. These might include working with refugees, assisting with the UNDIA Pow-Wow, setting up exhibits at the museum, mentoring students at an after-school program, or whatever projects you volunteer to coordinate!
Our "Service Theme" this year is Wellness, and we're doing some special programming around this theme. Students in Honors are reading John Eby's "Why Service-Learning Is Bad" and participating in discussions to provoke critical thinking about service learning and to help improve our service program.
Robin David is the faculty coordinator for Honors Service Projects, so contact her with questions or ideas about projects. You can also visit with an H-SLuG officer (Rachel Smerer, Kayla Ford, Megan Strube, and David Weaver) or Peer Service Mentor (Erin Barta, Nick Pederson, Jacob Winkels, Brooke Biederstedt, Ken McGurran, Beatrice Hill, and Jen Noiva). Or, you might be able to get things figured out yourself by perusing our Frequently Asked Service Questions.
To find out what Service Projects are coming up, click on the Calendar on the left side of the screen, or stop by the Honors Office and browse through the red binder.

How to Get Involved
To sign up for an Honors service activity online:
- Go to www.signupgenius.com.
- Click Find a Sign Up.
- Enter und.honorsprogram@email.und.edu.
- Choose the listing.
- Enter password: HONORS.
