Service Learning & Service Learning Facts
FACT PAGE
The Honors Program believes it is important for students to be engaged, active members of their communities, and that service to those communities provides valuable learning experience. As such, Civic Engagement is part of the educational mission of the Program.
Honors students demonstrate their citizenship by participating in Honors-sponsored service projects at UND and in the larger community. These might include working with refugees, assisting with the UNDIA Pow-Wow, setting up exhibits at the museum, mentoring students at an after-school program, or whatever projects you volunteer to coordinate!
Our "Service Theme" this year is Education, and we're doing some special programming around this theme. Students in Honors are reading Arthur Chickering's "Maximizing Civic Learning and Social Responsibility" and participating in discussions to provoke critical thinking about service learning and to help improve our service program.
Robin David is the faculty coordinator for Honors Service Projects, so contact her with questions or ideas about projects. You can also visit with an H-SLuG officer (Megan Strube, Kayla Ford, Carly Drew, and Zach Selzler) or Peer Service Mentor (Ken McGurran, Beatrice Hill, Jennifer Noiva, Sarah Lawler, Johnny Werner, Kristin Canham, and Jennifer Vetter). Or, you might be able to get things figured out yourself by perusing our Frequently Asked Service Questions.
