UND Stationery System
The UND Printing Center will cease operations June 30, 2013. Orders for official UND stationery (letterhead and business cards) must now be placed with Duplicating Services. U&PA is working to find a printing service provider for envelopes. In the interim, please direct questions to Margaret Myers at 777.3717.
The Division of University & Public Affairs (U&PA) has been designated by the Office of the President to monitor and maintain compliance with policy, procedures, and content for official letterheads, envelopes, and business cards.
UND academic departments and administrative units should use the approved, official layout design (including colors, typeface, and placement of all elements) for letterheads, envelopes, and business cards. These should not be altered or rearranged.
Printing specifications and examples of the official UND letterheads, envelopes and business cards follow in the section below.
Letterhead
Color and Paper: UND letterhead should be printed in two colors: Green (PMS 347) and Black. Paper should be standard brilliant white linen letter sized (8.5" x 11") paper.
Typeface: The college/school/division title (if present) and the main body text is Minion Pro (small caps). The contact information and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) statement text is Helvetica.
UND Logotype: The Primary UND Logotype is to be reproduced from an authorized original at all times. The logotype is 3.75" wide. A 0.5" margin is to the left of the logotype.
URL: The University of North Dakota URL (UND.edu) is left justified with the line extending to the 2" right margin. The baseline of the URL aligns with the baseline of the logotype.
Header Margins: Left and right margins are 0.5" and the top margin is 0.625" to top of the logotype. The top of the title line/contact information is 0.185" from the baseline of the logotype and a 7.125" green horizontal line (.75 pt stroke) equally divides the space between the logotype and contact information.
Contact Information: The minimum amount of information included on letterheads is the department/office/unit/program name, building, room number, street address, stop number, city, state, zip code, and general office telephone number(s) with area code. The unit fax number and unit email may also be included. The contact information is flush left to the URL with the longest line extending to the 0.5" right margin.
Type Sizes: The optional school/college/division title (under the UND Logotype) is 11.5-point medium with 9.5-point leading (tracking: 50). The URL is 14-point bold (tracking: 50). The department/office/unit/program line of the contact information is 10-point bold and all other contact information is regular with 12-point leading. The body is 10-point regular with 12-point leading. The EEO statement is 7-point italic.
EEO Statement: Place "The University of North Dakota is an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution" statement so the baseline is 0.25" from the bottom of the letterhead, flush right with a 0.5" right margin.
Body Copy Margins: For typing letters, the block style is preferred with 1" left margin and a 1" right margin. Begin the body of the letter at least 3" from the top of the page and allow at least a 1" margin at the bottom of the page. The text should be left justified.
Embossing, Engraving: Engraved or embossed letterheads are not recommended. Please consult U&PA at identity@UND.edu with any requests for engraved or embossed letterheads.
Monarch Size: A half-size letterhead sheet (5.5" x 8.5") is also available. Contact U&PA for design and guidelines at identity@UND.edu.
Personalization: Personalization is not recommended due to logistics and increased costs, as it restricts department-wide use. Personalization can be achieved with the typed name and signature and through the use of business cards. For permission to print personalized letterhead, contact U&PA at identity@UND.edu.
Secondary Logos or Slogans: Inclusion of a secondary logo or a line of a sub-message, or "slogan," can be approved on the official UND letterhead if it suggests worthwhile communication about the unit. Approval must be granted for such additions by U&PA. UND Duplicating Services will relay such requests to U&PA when letterhead printing orders are placed.
