Email newsletters are primarily used to build trust and relationships. E-newsletters, unlike a blog, arrive in subscribers’ inboxes as email messages. The content is formatted in a specific layout and delivered to an email list that is maintained by the primary administrator.
Official UND e-newsletters are set up at blogs.UND.edu using the MailPoet WordPress plugin.
Each e-newsletter needs to have a primary administrator who will set up and manage access for the e-newsletter. The primary e-newsletter administrator should use his/her UND email address to set up the account. Request an e-newsletter by submitting a request ticket. UND maintains an e-newsletter directory of all administrators for internal purposes.
Any design or MailPoet theme can be used; however, it must follow the UND Identity Guidelines color palette and prominently display the primary UND or unit logo. Suggested themes already installed and configured include:
If you would like to request a theme that isn’t already installed, submit a request ticket and the UND Web Team can install it. The primary administrator is responsible for configuring the theme if needed.
A successful e-newsletter consistently provides value by offering relevant content. Images can engage your audience, but keep in mind is that most email systems do not display images by default. The top two to three inches of your template is what people see in their preview panes, so if your template has mainly images in that area, most people will not see anything in their preview panes. Think of the preview pane area as a teaser area to grab the reader's attention. The information in this area should be compelling enough to make the reader open the email, download the images, and scroll down for more information.
E-newsletters can be sent daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly or longer, depending on when the content needs to reach subscribers. The more frequent your newsletter, the shorter it should be. Make it clear to your subscribers how frequently the e-newsletter will be sent.
E-newsletter services are only available for emails that go to lists managed outside of Blackboard. It is recommended to build an opt-in subscription list that also allows subscribers to unsubscribe. Use all channels you have to drive e-newsletter subscriptions, such as advertising, tradeshows, social media, or Web links.
