Unit Logos have been developed for use by colleges, departments, schools, administrative offices, institutes and other University units.
The Division of University & Public Affairs (U&PA) is responsible for generating and approving all Unit Logos for each college, school, department, or unit.
Please consult with your unit's UND Design Group member prior to requesting unit logos. It preferred that unit logos are requested by your unit's marketing, communication, or graphic design professionals. To request the development of a Unit Logo or Stamp, complete the Unit Logo Request Form.
The University of North Dakota is the primary identifier that external audiences use to differentiate UND from other universities. For example, in a trade journal with advertisements for business schools across the country, the main differentiator is UND because all of the advertised schools are business schools, but only one is the University of North Dakota. As such, the design of the Primary Unit Logo gives dominance to the University of North Dakota, while identifying the specific unit.
Colleges, schools, departments, and other units may use the Primary Unit Logo on all external communications. It is preferred that the Primary Unit Logo be the main graphic identifier on the majority of external communications designed at the unit level, including advertising, publication cover designs, and other collateral materials.
The Primary Unit Logo design allows for one unit level to be represented. Depending on the unit's audiences and communication goals, the unit may choose which level should be represented, e.g., college, department, office, etc. Typically, the highest level in the organizational structure is represented.
For internal campus audiences and select external communications, it is sometimes necessary to differentiate at the unit level. By replacing the University of North Dakota with the unit name in the logo design, the unit name receives prominence while retaining an overall University identity.
It is preferred that Secondary Unit Logos be used on mailing panels of publications; the inside pages of publications; social media pages; internal memos, newsletters, and notices; give-away promotional items; email signatures; and staff apparel.
For advertising, publication cover designs, and other external collateral materials, the Primary UND Logo or the Primary Unit Logo are preferred.
As with the Primary Unit Logo design, the unit may choose which level should be represented to best accomplish their communication goals, e.g., college, department, or office. For example, a department may be represented without listing the parent college or school.
If units choose to represent more than one level of their organizational structure, they may use the Secondary Unit Stamp for internal communications. The Unit Stamp allows for representation of up to two unit levels.
It is preferred that Secondary Unit Stamps be used on mailing panels; the inside pages of publications; social media pages; internal memos, newsletters, and notices; and email signatures.
Please note that Secondary Unit Stamps may be used on staff apparel and give-away promotional items that have large imprint areas (e.g., duffel bag), but their use is not recommended for items that have small imprint areas.
Secondary Unit Stamps are not recommended for advertising, stationery, business cards, publication cover designs, and other external collateral materials. For these purposes, units are encouraged to use the Primary UND Logo or the Primary Unit Logo.
