Graphic Design Technology

The Graphic Design Technology program is an innovative, multidisciplinary major that integrates courses from various academic departments. The major includes a significant business component — the Entrepreneurial Studies Certificate program—which is unique in comparison to all other graphic design programs in this region and most graphic design programs nationally.
Throughout this program you’ll learn to plan, analyze and create solutions to visual communication problems. You’ll consider cognitive, cultural, physical, economic, political, psychological and social factors in planning and executing graphic designs appropriate for a given context. You’ll use a variety of print, electronic and photographic media and technologies during the design process
By working with an academic advisor, you're able to design a plan of study to fit your interests and skills, and earn the degree you want. Some course options include:
- Computer Aided Design and Drafting
- Fundamentals of Photography
- Imagination, Creativity and Entrepreneurial Thinking
- Multimedia Production
- Web Design
In addition to in-class design projects, you're encouraged to pursue internships or graphics-related positions to expand your knowledge and put into practice what you’re learning. Any experience you can gain on campus, will benefit you personally and professional. Graphic design students have the opportunity to join the 100+ member list of the Graphics and Photography Society on campus. You can also assist our 275+ student clubs and organizations with their graphic design needs.
With a set of specialized skills and creative genius, you’ll be in demand for an array of exciting careers in business, government, industry and education. Some design specialties you can choose from are:
- Advertising and related services
- Printed design
- Newspaper, periodical, directory publishing
- Motion picture production
- Engineering-related firms
