Three Vice President for University and Public Affairs Candidates to visit campus in April
Three candidates for the Vice President for University and Public Affairs will visit the University of North Dakota for interviews in April. The candidates include:

Each candidate will meet with various constituency groups and will participate in an open forum for the campus community and public to meet and greet them.
After the interviews are complete, the search committee, chaired by Dr. Joshua Wynne, UND Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences, will recommend finalists to President Robert Kelley.
Dr. Derek Hall
Since May 2008, Dr. Derek Hall has served as the Vice President for University and & External Affairs at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla. He is responsible for overseeing the management of media relations, publications, web, events, marketing, branding and advertising, institutional research, legislative relations, and community relations. Prior to that, he served as Interim Vice President of Enrollment Management at Jacksonville University, November 2007-April 2008; Associate Vice President of University Marketing & Communications, Jacksonville University, June 2006-November 2007; Associate Vice President of College Marketing & Communications, Utah Valley University, April 2005-May 2006; Director of College Marketing & Communications, Utah Valley University, July 1994-April 2005; Assistant Director of College Relations, Utah Valley University, January 1989-July 1994.
Hall earned an Ed.D., in Education Leadership & Policy, University of Utah, 2006; master's in Mass Communications Theory, Brigham Young University, 1997; and a bachelor's in Public Relations, Brigham Young University, 1989.
Pete Haga has served as the Community/Governmental Relations Officer for the City of Grand Forks since 2002. In that role, he coordinates communication strategy for and serves as liaison with governmental entities. His responsibilities include managing the City of Grand Forks' legislative program; coordinating legislative priority development and policy adoption; communicating priorities to internal and external audiences including City Council, residents and legislators; serving as liaison to the offices and staff of the North Dakota governor and North Dakota's congressional delegation; providing professional advisory and administrative assistance to the Mayor of Grand Forks; coordinating communication between city government and various constituencies; and managing the City of Grand Forks' Public Information Center and overall communication efforts. Haga's prior position was Communications Specialist with the City of Grand Forks, 1997-2002.
Haga earned a bachelor's in History, University of Minnesota, 1994.
Susan Walton has been a member of the Brigham Young University Department of Communications faculty since June 2006, and has served as the Department's Associate Chair for Student Media since May 2009. She is responsible for providing administrative management for student-run labs, including the Bradley Public Relations Agency, the Advanced Advertising Lab, the ElevenNews daily television news broadcast, and The Daily Universe, Brigham Young University's campus newspaper. Since 2007, Walton has served as owner and principal of Strategic Communications Consulting, LLC., a communications consulting and writing agency. Walton's prior positions include Director of Corporate Communication for Harley-Davidson Motor Company, 2004-2006, and Director of Corporate Communications, Boise Cascade Corporation, 2000-2004. She also served in several positions with The Dow Chemical Company: Global Marketing Communications Leader, Dow Plastics, The Dow Chemical Company, 1997-2000; Global Communications Manager, Plastics, Dow Europe S.A., Horgen, Switzerland, 1995-1997; Senior Marketing Communications Manager, Environmental Services, R&D and Technology Licensing and Catalyst Businesses, 1993- 1995; Senior Communications Specialist, TQM/Public Communications, 1990-1993. She served as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English & Professional Communications at Monroe Community College, a part of the State University of New York system, Rochester, N.Y., 1987-1989.
Walton earned a master's in English, Brigham Young University, 1986, and a Bachelor of Independent Studies (Liberal Arts concentration), Brigham Young University, 1979.
