UND Ten Percent Society to host second annual NDGLBTQA conference April 20-22
The second annual NDGLBTQA (North Dakota Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Queer Ally) conference is set to take place April 20-22 on the UND campus.
This year's conference is hosted once again by the University of North Dakota's Ten Percent Society, and will feature keynote speaker Kate Bornstein, internationally known author and gender theorist.
The 2012 conference, titled "It's Time," will have a variety of workshops and entertainment with the goal of providing a fun and interesting way to learn about diversity and the LGTBQA community. The events will take place at UND's Christus Rex Center, Gamble Hall and the Howard Johnson hotel in Grand Forks. For a list of events, times and locations go to www.ndglbtqa.org
The events are open to the public and free, except for the catered dinner, music, drag show and dance, at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 21, at the Howard Johnson Ballroom. The charge for that event is $15.
Bornstein is an author, playwright and performance artist. She's best known for her ground-breaking books on postmodern gender theory, Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women and the Rest of Us; My Gender Workbook; and Hello, Cruel World: 101 Alternatives To Suicide For Teens, Freaks, and Other Outlaws, the latter of which is an underground best-seller. Kate's books are taught in more than 120 colleges and universities around the world, and she has performed live at many college campuses, theaters and performance spaces across North America, Europe and Australia.
