Part of the Reserve Officer Training Corps program, the detachment trains outstanding students to become officers in the United States Air Force, and receive a commission as second lieutenants upon graduation.
Detachment 610 is unique in that it is divided into two wings, Eagle Wing I at North Dakota State University and Eagle Wing II at the University of North Dakota. Students at either of these two institutions may enroll in Air Force ROTC at their school and participate in the program as an integral part of their college experience.
Those attending one of several smaller schools elsewhere in North Dakota and Minnesota may also join AFROTC through cross-town arrangement with those colleges. For those who want to fly for the world's finest Air Force, and added benefit is the wide range of aerospace degrees offered at UND, allowing them to major in a subject directly related to their prospective career field. Cadets receive instruction in leadership skills, Air Force history, careers, and physical fitness.
A number of scholarships are available to both high schools students and college freshman. Cadets may take part in career days and see where Predator drones are piloted from as well as many other exciting career opportunities as they speak with current Air Force Officers in the field.
