UND Staff Senate U-Shine Award

UND faculty, staff, students and the general public are encouraged to nominate and recognize that special someone who they believe did something extraordinary.  Staff Senate wants to recognize that person who has gone out of their way to help someone else without the expectation of a reward.

This award is presented monthly to a UND staff member who went out of his or her way to make UND a better place. The winner receives a certificate, $50, and a small token of appreciation. An annual award of $250.00 is presented at the annual Staff Recognition Luncheon in May. Winners are unaware of their win until the award is presented during "special department meetings" or other gatherings.

Jay Smith and I were walking back from the Hyslop when he noticed a female student sitting on the sidewalk.  She said she felt dizzy and didn't dare walk.  Jay went over to Student Health and got a wheelchair and then took her to Student Health.

The 2012 annual winner was Jay Smith, Memorial Union. This award was presented during the Staff Recognition Luncheon held on May 15, 2012.

All UND staff members are eligible to receive this award.  Nominations can be submitted through the Staff Senate website at http://www.und.edu/org/undss/ or forms are available at UND Facilities, Dining Services and the Memorial Union Post Office.

Nominations received by the 15th of the month will be considered in the current month, all others will be held until the following month.  All nominations remain under consideration for six months.
