Declaring a Major
When
In order to graduate from UND, students must choose and declare a major. Some students know from the minute they apply to college what they are going to study and pursue as a career path. Other students may choose a major and decide later on to change to something completely different. Still others may choose to be undecided until they have made a choice regarding their major. Although, most majors can be declared at any time throughout the year some departments have restrictions on this process. Students are encouraged to visit with their academic advisor to determine the appropriate timeframe for declaring a major.
Declaring a major means a student has noted with the University a specific major he/she intends to pursue. Being officially admitted to a particular major or program means a student must meet certain program requirements before being granted admission. Requirements for admission will vary from one program to the next. Students should see the academic catalog, visit program websites, and most importantly visit with an academic advisor for information on specific admission requirements.
Process
Once a student has chosen a major, the process to declare may vary by major. Initially, students should contact the college that houses their intended major. Links to the various colleges are listed below.

Advisor
When students change their major new academic advisors are assigned. Undecided students are assigned a professional advisor from the Student Success Center while students in most other declared majors are assigned a faculty or professional advisor from within their program. However, students pursuing a major in Physical Therapy are not assigned a specific advisor. Instead, students are encouraged to work with a variety of faculty members to receive guidance and assistance.
Students can view their assigned advisor in Campus Connection. To do so, students should log in to Campus Connection and visit Student Center. On the right hand side of the screen a light blue box will list the assigned advisor. Students should also see a telephone number listed for the advisor. If no advisor is listed, students should contact the college that houses their intended major. If there is a discrepancy between what is listed on Campus Connection and the intended major, students should also contact the college that houses their intended major. Undecided students should contact the Student Success Center, Memorial Union room 201, (701) 777-2117 for information regarding their advisor.
Students who are a decided major, but wish to change to undecided should contact the Student Success Center, Memorial Union room 201, (701) 777-2117.
