Making the decision to attend the University of North Dakota is a big one for many students. While they are on campus attending classes, joining student organizations, volunteering and/or working part-time jobs – they are building important tools that can be added to their resume for future career success.
As a family member, we hope you will encourage your student to use the tools available in Career Services as a vital part of that education. We are here to help bridge the connection from the classroom to reaching future career goals. It starts early on in their college career, not just at graduation.
Ways you can help:
- Encourage your student to visit with their academic advisor early on and often and to visit the Career Services office. Both can provide valuable information and guidance regarding majors and careers.
- Talk with your employer about hiring UND students and about attending our Career Fairs that are held early in the spring and fall semesters.
- Encourage your student to seek Cooperative Education or internship experience – this is so important in their college career. It can make the student stand out over other applicants when applying for full-time positions, and it provides valuable experience.
Students can use Career Services to:
- Access a career inventory software program called Career LiftOff
- Receive assistance with writing a letter of application and a resume
- Learn how to prepare for an interview
- Practice interviewing with one of our Career Coordinators
- Develop job searching skills
- Learn networking tips
- Learn about Co-ops and Internships
- Prepare for a Career Fair
- Discover the link between employers and students using Career Connect
- Set-up on-site interviews and learn when companies will be on-campus
