Career Development Checklist
As an incoming college freshman, you can benefit from Career Services beginning your first year at the University of North Dakota. Contrary to popular opinion, Career Services are not just for students nearing graduation. In fact, if you visit our office well before your senior year, you can explore career goals that match your interests, values, work style, and needs; gain experience in an internship or Cooperative Education position; conduct a job search for your full-time dream job, etc. The more you reflect on what tasks, experiences, and coursework you most enjoy, the easier it will be to determine the career that is right for you.
Freshman Year: Explore majors, network with faculty and advisors, and use Career LiftOff, a computerized self-assessment program offered by Career Services.
Sophomore Year: Focus on your major, research job descriptions that fit with your major, get experience in a Co-op or internship.
Junior Year: Make decisions regarding your career goals and get more experience in your chosen field.
Senior Year: Implement your “game plan” and conduct a job search.
