Academics
Educational Leadership
Residence Hall Directors (RHDs) and Residence Apartment Directors (RADs) are expected to be students working toward a degree. RHDs can be in any field of study; note that a preference is given to those applicants declaring Educational Leadership (Master of Science, or M.S., Degree, Higher Education emphasis) as their program choice, followed by those programs in human services or development that closely relate to Educational Leadership, then followed by other programs of study.
Graduate School Information
The Graduate School offers master's degrees in 57 fields, doctoral degrees in 22 fields, and the Specialist Diploma.
Keep in mind that graduate programs have deadline dates for applications, and those deadlines are neither uniform nor do they all occur after the Oshkosh Placement Exchange. Special arrangements may be available for those students who have missed deadlines. Examples of these arrangements may include your classification as a special student during your first semester of employment. Please, do what you need to do to meet deadlines, but don't assume that a application deadline past should necessarily eliminate your candidacy.
Outdoor Fun
Summer
Summer is a great time in Grand Forks. The days are long - the sun is up about 5:00 am to make early golf games great, and the sun stays up until after 9:00 pm for you softball leaguers! The high latitude and our western placement in the Central Time Zone make it a great outdoors place. All the camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, biking fun you could want. Grand Forks has terrific bike paths throughout town.
Winter
The winters provide things to do, too. It can be cold, but that doesn't always keep us inside! Grand Forks builds and maintains outdoor ice rinks in most city parks. The skies are reliably blue and clear throughout the winter, providing abundant sunshine. There are cross-country ski paths for residents to enjoy. And there are five downhill ski locations within a 2 hours drive from campus.
Food and Fitness
Fitness Center
You have two immediate choices. First, UND opened a brand new multi-million dollar wellness center in September 2006. As a registered and fee-paying student, you will be able to use the center. Second, all resident students and live-in residence hall supervisory staff (and eligible family members) may use the All-Around Fitness Center located in Bek Hall.
Food
RHDs receive an unlimited meal plan for their use. It is anticipated that many of the meals in the dining centers will be taken with staff members and students of one's hall. Residence Services operates three dining halls and other retail operations throughout campus.
A married, residing spouse of an RHD receives a complementary unlimited meal plan. A reduced meal plan can be purchased for a child or children of an RHD.
Dining Services is completing an aggressive and notable labeling campaign. Current and recent staff members who are vegetarian report they are pleased with the current selection of choices or the willingness of Dining Services staff to accommodate special needs and listen to suggestions. For those with food allergies, special needs, or wishing to alter their eating habits, Dining Services employs a dietitian who is available to identify dietary choices from Dining Center menus.

Smoke Free Residence Halls and Apartments?
Yes, all Residence Halls and University Apartments are smoke-free. In fact, the entire campus is tobacco-free.
Other
There are some lifestyle accommodations that we cannot provide. Like all other residents, RHDs/RLCs cannot possess alcohol in a university residence hall and cannot own pets. State law provides that only a legal spouse can share an apartment.
