November 2012
The MACURH (Midwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls) Conference was hosted by the University of Nebraska, Kearney
- 24 students from UND attended the conference
- 14 of the 15 programs submitted were accepted
- UND had 2 "Top 10" Program Awards
- BAFA BAFA – Presented by Mark Nicklaus and Casey Weaver
- Drumming up Excitement: How to Plan Clue a Murder Mystery Party – Presented by Joe Kalka and Dora Bralo (from J/F)
- UND won the Award for Best Display for a Large School
- UND won the Award for Most Spirited School
- UND placed 2nd in case study competition.

NACURH Conference Award Recipients
Jacob Nelson and Benjamin Anderson received an award for the program they presented at NACURH, titled The Awkward Party. This program was named a Top 20 program, which means it was one of the best programs of the conference.

20th Annual Thomas Clifford Outstanding Residence Hall Leader Award
Michael Muenchow, son of Mark Muen
chow and Kathryn Blume of Prior Lake, MN, was awarded the Thomas Clifford Outstanding Residence Hall Leader Award for 2012. He received a plaque and a $2,000 scholarship for his involvement in the UND residence halls. Muenchow was Selke Hall President and an active leader.
The Thomas Clifford Outstanding Residence Hall Leader Award is presented to the residence hall leader who best reflects a positive leadership style and has a broad impact on the housing community.
Derrick Hanson Scholarship Award
Robert Wilcox, son of Brian and Mary Wilcox of Roseville, MN, recently received the Derrick Hanson Scholarship Award for 2012. Wilcox was honored for his outstanding contributions to the residence hall system with a plaque and a $3,500 scholarship for the 2012-13 academic year. He has served most recently as a Resident Assistant (RA) in Brannon Hall.
This scholarship is named for Derrick Hanson, a residence hall student leader and West Hall RA from 1990-1992. Tragically, in April of 1992, Hanson was diagnosed with cancer and he succumbed to that illness less than four months later. A scholarship was later established in his honor. Awarded annually, this scholarship recognizes a staff person in the UND residence halls who reflects the values Derrick demonstrated on a daily basis: academic excellence, longevity of service, and positive attitude.
National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) Scholarships
The National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is a service of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH), Inc. It is designed to give national as well as local recognition to students making outstanding contributions to their residence halls. NRHH is the only nationwide organization that recognizes residence hall leaders. Membership in local chapters is limited to one percent of the residence hall population. UND members work on many projects, including an annual leadership workshop for hall government members and final exam survival kits. Annual scholarships are presented to residence hall leaders demonstrating a positive attitude and dedication to the residence hall community.
- Jacob Nelson, son of Scott and Stacey Nelson from Hibbing, MN, received a $1,000 scholarship for his active leadership and positive contributions to the UND residence halls. He will serve as the ARH Vice President for Policy Board in 2012-13.
- Alexis Kelsch, daughter of David and Connie Kelsch of Washburn, ND, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for outstanding contributions to her residence hall community. This past year, Kotta served on ARH Programming Board.
- Katrina Kotta, daughter of Bryan and Judy Kotta of Moorhead, MN, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for outstanding contributions to her residence hall community. This past year, Kotta served as ARH Policy Board Wellness Chair and will represent UND this summer at NACURH.

UND National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) Recieves Building Block Chapter of the Year Award at No Frills 2012
The NRHH Building Block Chapter Of The Year award is awarded to a chapter, which shows outstanding growth and development during the year of nomination. Members accepted the award at the No Frills Conference at the University of Minnesota in January.

19th Annual Thomas Clifford Outstanding Residence Hall Leader Award
Brandi Jewett, daughter of David and DeeDee Jewett, of Valley City, ND, was awarded the Thomas Clifford Outstanding Residence Hall Leader Award for 2011. She received a plaque and a $2,000 scholarship for her involvement in the UND residence halls. Jewett was active in all the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) events and also received the NRHH "Member of the Year" award at the regional conference. Jewett will be serving as incoming NRHH President for the 2011-12 academic year and is a junior majoring in Communication.

- Stephanie Rosenthal, daughter of Stephen and Marlee Rosenthal of Zumbrota, MN, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for outstanding contributions to her residence hall community.
- Alexander Knudson, son of Kent and Shannon Knudson of Albert Lea, MN, received a $1,000 scholarship for his active leadership and positive contributions to the UND residence halls.
19th Annual Derrick Hanson Scholarship Award
André Thom, son of Bob and Dominique Thom of Morgan Hill, CA, recently received the Derrick Hanson Scholarship Award for 2011. Thom, a junior majoring in Aviation Management, was honored for his outstanding contributions to the residence hall system with a plaque and a $3,000 scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year. He has served as a Resident Assistant (RA) in West and Noren Halls over the past two years and demonstrated strong leadership skills through open communication and strong community development with his staff and residents.
