How can I stay up-to-date on what's going on in the halls?
Sign up for the residence hall E-Bulletin. It's an email sent twice a month during the academic year with events, deadlines and activities going on in the halls.
What can my student bring and what should we leave at home?
See the Move-in page.
Can I rent a refrigerator?
Yes. They don't need to be reserved in advance and the cost is $50 per year. See a service center when you arrive in the fall. You may also bring your own up to 5.0 cubic feet.
I sent a package to my student, why don't they have it yet?
All FedEx and UPS packages addressed to students in the residence halls are delivered to the Wilkerson Service Center. Packages must be picked up at the Wilkerson Service Center and a photo ID is required. There may be a difference in the date the package arrives on campus and when it's ready for your student to pick up due to the volume of mail processed at the service center. Students are sent a notification to their University email and a slip is placed in their mailbox. More information on mail delivery.
Are there student jobs available on campus?
See student job openings year-round
Can my student get academic support in the halls?
Residents have access to a Writing Consultant for editing/proofing and other assistance on writing projects for any class. Tutoring is also available. Schedules will be posted in August.
Are the dining centers open on holidays?
For fall semester, meals are served on Labor Day and Veterans Day holidays. No meals are served on Thanksgiving Day, however meals are served Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. Not all dining centers are open for holidays, so your student should check the Residence Hall Calendar Planner or the Dining Services web site for dining center hours and the location that is open.
How do I mail a package or postal letter to my student?
Use this address example:
JOE STUDENT
204B WEST HALL
GRAND FORKS ND 58202
My student is sick, how can they get a meal?
Sick trays are available for students in the residence halls. If you student does not feel well enough to go to a dining center, they may ask their RA for a sick tray request form. A roommate or friend may bring a tray to your student's room.
