Community Members Who Care
Resident Assistants (RA)
Also known as “RAs,” these student staff members are undergraduate students who are assigned to each floor or wing in every residence hall on campus. These students live in the hall and have been hired through a competitive selection process and trained in communication, conflict resolution, and group facilitation. They are also involved with organizing group activities, programs and community building.
Residence Hall Directors (RHD) and Assistant Hall Directors (ARHD)
A Residence Hall Director (RHD) is a graduate student and housing employee who lives in an apartment in each residence hall building. An Assistant Residence Hall Director (ARHD) is usually a senior student and housing employee who also lives in the apartment of a smaller hall. Most RHD and ARHDs are working towards a graduate or undergraduate degree in an area that supports their field of Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or related field. They oversee their building, supervise the RAs on each wing/floor, and advise the hall council. These staff members also assist with questions about the University, roommate and personal issues, as well as social and academic challenges.
Residence Life Coordinators (RLC)
Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) are full-time housing employees who live in an apartment in Walsh and Brannon Halls. RLCs are responsible for their overall building and have extensive housing experience and training in student affairs. These staff members take on more responsibility, yet still oversee staff in their building and can assist students with resolving issues.
Assistant Directors (AD)
Assistant Directors are full-time, Master’s Degree level staff positions responsible for the administration and operation of a group of residence halls and service center staffs. They have experience in community living and supervise Hall Directors and Assistant Hall Directors, and support staff in their area.
Service Center Staff
These student staff members work in one of three service centers (Wilkerson, Walsh and Johnstone Halls). They are responsible for greeting visitors, assisting with student needs, distributing mail and checking out equipment.
Building Service Technicians (BST)
These staff members are assigned to each residence hall and are responsible for cleaning common areas including lounges, hallways, stairways, bathrooms (suite style and community cluster). Each BST wears a uniform and UND identification.
