DSL FAQ
Will UND provide a DSL modem as part of the $30 a semester charge? Or can I rent one from the school?
Not at the $30 price point, but for an extra $5 a semester students can rent modems, however these are first come first serve and we run out quickly.
Where can I purchase a DSL modem in Grand Forks?
The only place in Grand Forks that you can obtain a DSL modem pre-configured for UND DSL service is at the UND Housing Office.
What if I do not want to rent a DSL modem from the Housing Office, what can I do then?
ResNet provides a list of compatible DSL modems on their website that can be purchased online. However, if you decide to purchase a DSL modem online, or from a vendor other than UND, ResNet cannot guarantee that the DSL modem you purchased will work on our DSL network.
How do I go about getting online with UND's DSL service?
If I sign up for the DSL mid-way through the semester, will I be billed the full $30?
The billing is pro-rated, meaning if you sign up for the DSL halfway through the semesters, you will only be billed half the amount.
Who gets billed for the DSL?
The leaseholder will have the DSL billed directly to their student account.
If I move to a different apartment on campus, can I keep my DSL connection, or do I have to cancel and re-request a connection?
Simply come down to the Housing Office and let us know that you are changing addresses and wish to have your DSL service transferred to your new address.
How do I cancel my DSL service?
Simply come down to the Housing office and fill out a DSL Cancellation request form at the front desk. Or fill out and hand in this downloadable copy.

I had DSL through Qwest previously, will my DSL modem that I purchased from Qwest work with UND's DSL service?
Qwest modems and other DSL provider modems in general do not work on our network. However if you currently own one, feel free to bring it down to the ResNet office and we can verify if it works or not on our network.
Why does my DSL connection drop when my phone rings, or when I make a phone call?
In order to keep your connection from dropping, you will need DSL filters on ALL of the phones in your apartment. You can pick up these filters for free at the Housing Office.
People sound quiet or distant on the phone, and there is a static-sound when I use the phone.
