2014 Spring Recruitment: Tuesday, January 28th through Saturday, February 1st
Fraternity recruitment at UND is a way for men interested in joining a fraternity to learn about each chapter and make an informed decision about joining the chapter that fits them best. Fraternity recruitment takes place in September & February and includes a week-long set of events hosted by each chapter. Potential new members can choose to attend as many fraternity events as they choose. However, it is highly recommended that potential new members check out each chapter throughout the week and get to know members from each organization in order to choose the best fit for themselves.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How much time does a fraternity take? Will I have time for school?
Fraternity membership does include a time commitment; however, depending upon your involvement in chapter leadership positions, the time commitment will vary. In general, most chapters have Monday night formal meals and meetings each week. In addition, in a given semester, members attend brotherhood events, attend educational programming, volunteer in the community, host and attend philanthropic events, and dance the night away at social events.
I heard all fraternities do is party and drink, is that true?
The Animal House stigma is one that fraternities strive to relinquish every day and are doing so by adhering to their chapter's risk management policies and exhibiting responsible practices regarding event management. Each chapter has a set of policies and guidelines that they must follow to regulate social events and ensure safety.
How much are chapter dues?
Each fraternity chapter sets their own dues. These rates are usually determined by an estimate of expenses incurred per member. Each chapter is assessed a national dues fee from the national Headquarter, an insurance premium per member, IFC dues per member, and chapter operating expenses to determine the dues per member.
Will I have to live in the fraternity house?
Yes. All chapters have requirements in place that mandate each member live in the house for at least one year during their members. However, living in the chapter house is one of the most fun parts about being in a fraternity and the bonds that are created through living with your brothers are like nothing else.
