The mission of Volunteer Bridge is to provide information, opportunities, and support for students interested in pursuing civic involvement through volunteerism.
Volunteer Bridge supports the general education goals of the University of North Dakota by providing a centralized location for students to locate volunteer opportunities in the Grand Forks community and beyond. This service is designed to help students develop a capacity and interest in serving others by providing them with opportunities to serve. By becoming involved in the variety of volunteer opportunities, students develop a sense of responsibility, both to specific communities and to a culturally pluralistic world. Finally, by participating in out-of-classroom experiences through volunteering, students have the opportunity to develop a greater personal satisfaction through access to the larger social, political, economic, scientific, and aesthetic culture.
Volunteer Bridge serves as a resource for students providing information about volunteer opportunities in the greater Grand Forks community. Volunteer Bridge maintains a relationship with agencies in the community who need volunteers on an ongoing basis. Volunteers may commit for a single event, a semester, or for an entire year.
Volunteering is an excellent way for students to gain experiences outside the classroom. These benefits include:
- Building relationships with diverse populations
- Using critical thinking and problem solving skills in real world situations.
- Exploring careers and developing references.
- Networking by developing friendships with other students and community leaders.
- Learning about national and community issues first hand.
- Increasing leadership and team work abilities.
- Increasing academic self confidence.
- Improving communication and interpersonal skills.
