Meet, Eat & Learn
Our Meet, Eat & Learn series is a great opportunity to learn something new, share views and ideas, and interact with others - all while enjoying a delicious and FREE lunch. Presentation formats vary, including but not limited to: talks, panel discussions, demonstrations, and plays. Topics are ever-changing and are related to issues that affect the UND community and beyond.
Meet, Eat & Learn is held once a month from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the International Centre (2908 University Avenue). These presentations are open to EVERYONE - students, faculty, staff, as well as greater Grand Forks community members.

Sept 28-Meet Eat and Learn
Kristen Peterson, from Grand Forks, will share a story about a girl she knew who experienced domestic violence in her life.

Nov 2-Meet Eat and Learn
Speaker:Jackie Hoffarth (Freestone) Place: International Student Center
Time: Lunch Hour (12 Noon-1pm)
Jackie will discuss victimology as it has related to her personal experiences. Jackie's 21 year old brother, James Freestone, was killed by a drunk driver fleeing from police in June of 2010 in Grand Forks. She will speak about her relationship, as a victim, with the judicial system, with social institutions such as the media, with the perpetrator, and with other community members and victims. Jackie will also briefly explain the court process as it relates to violent crime, the history and present rights of victims, and resources available for victims in Grand Forks. She will discuss common mental, emotional, physical, and financial effects for victims of violent crimes.

Julie Dahlman RN and Rebecca Lessard RN will talk about UND Disease Prevention and Early Detection Clinical studies on our campus. They will be sharing breast cancer statistics and preventive research that is going on locally at UND.

Feb 8-Meet Eat and Learn
Speaker:Amoussa Koriko Place: International Student Center
Time: Lunch Hour (12 Noon-1pm)
Amoussa will speak on common misconceptions and challenges facing refugees coming into the area.Mr. Koriko is a current UND student pursuing his PHD in Educational Foundation & Reasearch. He is currently a GTA, teaching French. Amoussa is a cultural officer in both the UND African Student Union and Grand Forks United African Community organizations. He is the founder of a local non profit organization, African Art Arena.
