About Student Email
Who is eligible?
All students registered for the current semester as well as past students who attended UND during Spring 2010 or later.
Will I have a UND branded email address?
Yes. Even though you are using email through Microsoft, your email address will be your NDUS.Identifier@my.und.edu
What is the difference between my NDUS identifier and my student email address?
Your NDUS Identifier is based on your name (e.g. john.doe) and is used to access the Identity Management System, Campus Connection, Blackboard, wireless authentication, etc. Your student email address consists of your NDUS.Identifier@my.und.edu which is used to access your student email only.
Do faculty and staff have access to student email?
Faculty and staff currently use the Office 365 email system, however this system is not connected to the student email system at this time. Anyone who is taking a course at UND will have an account on the student email system.
Can alumni receive an account?
Only if you have attended UND in Spring 2010 or since then.
I am a University employee and a student, what email system will I use?
You will have both a faculty/staff and separate student email account.
What happens when I graduate?
An official decision has not yet been made regarding how long students will retain email accounts after graduation. The issue is being reviewed at UND and at the North Dakota University System level.
There are no plans to terminate email accounts for students who have recently graduated, however students who have graduated are encouraged to obtain a separate email account for non-academic use.
Once a decision is made, students will be notified well in advance to allow plenty of time to transition to a new email account.
Can I share my student mail address with my friends?
If by "share" you mean give the address to others to mail to, the answer is yes. You may use your student email address for communication with the university, friends, family, and others. You should not, however, share your password with others.
Can I change my student email address?
If you have had a name change and would like your email address to reflect that change, the first step is to change your name with the Registrar's Office. Once you name is changed in Campus Connection you may request that your NDUS.Identifier be changed by contacting UND Tech Support. Please note that the identifier change not only impacts your email address but also your Campus Connection, Blackboard, network authentication, basically any service that uses your NDUS Identifier.
Can I change my email display name?
Your email display name can only be changed after you have officially changed your legal name with the Registrar's office and have requested an NDUS.Identifier change through UND Tech Support.
Accessing Student Email
What is my email address?
The general format of your student email address is: NDUS.Identifier@my.und.edu. For example, if you use john.doe to access Campus Connection, Blackboard etc. your email address would be firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I set up my email account?
If you've already claimed your IDM account then you are ready to log into your student email account. Your login and password is the same as what you use for services such as Blackboard and Campus Connection.
Do I need to install any software to access my email?
No. As long as your system has a supported browser installed and you have access to the Internet, you can check your email account and send/receive emails.
Do I need to use a Windows PC or Microsoft Internet Explorer?
No. All the Web-based services included in site can be accessed from Windows, Mac, or Linux using Internet Explorer or Firefox. Safari and other browsers are also supported.
Problems logging in for the first time?
Some passwords may not have been set in the student email system during the initial load. If you are experiencing problems logging on the first time, please try resetting your password here . Please note that this will also change the password you use in Campus Connection, Blackboard etc.
What do I do if I forgot my password?
You can use the self-service password reset at: http://und.edu/tech-support/claim.cfm. Click the "Forgot your password?" link. Once you answer the security questions you set up when you claimed your account, you will be able to change your password. Please be aware that this changes the password for all services that use your NDUS Identifier, e.g. Campus Connection, Blackboard etc.
If the system does not allow you to reset your password, contact UND Tech Support at 777-6305 or email email@example.com for assistance.
How do I change my password?
The student email password is managed by the UND Identity Management System (IDM). You can change your password by logging in here and choosing "Change My Password."
I have another email address. Can I forward all student email to that account?
Yes. While you may forward your UND email to another email account, having email lost because of forwarding does not absolve you from the responsibilities associated with communication sent to your official email address. The University is not responsible for handling of UND email by outside vendors or unofficial servers.
