CoBPA Pilot: iThenticate
The College of Business and Public Administration (CoBPA) is partnering with the Center for Instructional & Learning Technologies (CILT) to provide UND faculty with a resource to help them when submitting their own papers for publication to professional journals. This collaboration offers a pilot of iThenticate plagiarism detection software, which checks submitted papers against a comprehensive content database for originality and returns a similarity report with links to referenced published work.
Why use iThenticate instead of SafeAssign?
Thenticate offers faculty more benefits than SafeAssign, which is used at UND for student and faculty authentication of submitted papers. The iThenticate process protects confidential information within the submission because it does not keep a copy in the iThenticate content database, whereas SafeAssign offers to add a copy in the UND database. iThenticate's content database is much more comprehensive than SafeAssign resources, as it includes more than:
- 37 billion web pages
- 92 million works from academic journals & research abstracts
- 37 million scholarly articles, books and proceedings
- 300,000 dissertations and theses.
Visit this page to see additional information on what the iThenticate content database includes.
Faculty already use "spellcheck" to review documents, and this is one more resource. iThenticate is easy to use, organizes submitted papers, and provides faculty with added confidence to publish their scholarly work.
How long is the pilot?
The iThenticate pilot covers 1,000 faculty submissions or one-year of access, whichever occurs first.
