SafeAssign for Faculty/Staff
SafeAssign is a tool used to identify acts of plagiarism and to create opportunities to help students learn how to properly attribute sources rather than paraphrase. SafeAssign compares submitted assignments against a set of sources to identify areas of overlap between the submitted assignment and existing works.

Tips for Using SafeAssign
- Be sure that the document includes a supported file extension. SafeAssign accepts files in doc, .docx, .odt, .txt, .rtf, .pdf, and .html file formats only. Note: Mac computers may automatically hide or delete the file extension. If this occurs, name the file to include the file extension on the end or in the Save As window, click on the "Hide Extension" check box to unselect it.
- Make sure the file name includes only letters and/or numbers. Do not use special characters such as commas, exclamation points, etc.
- Recent version of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox have security measures that may affect actions on a secure site that begins with https:// (note the "s"). Blackboard is a secure site and contains the https:// in the address bar at the top of the page. When using SafeAssign within Blackboard, this may prevent the SafeAssignment file from uploading. When this occurs, a shield/globe icon will appear in the address bar. Click on the icon to allow the content to be displayed.
