As a staff member, you have ongoing contact with students and may observe firsthand changes in a student's behavior.
If you have a student whose behavior causes you to feel alarmed, upset, or worried (most common), or a student whose behavior interferes with or interrupts the workflow process of other students and staff or the normal business functions of the university – please contact the University Counseling Center (701.777.2127) or Dean of Students (701.777.2664).
If you have a student whose behavior leaves you feeling frightened and in fear for your personal safety or the safety of others, please contact the University Police Department (701.777.3491). The University Police Department works closely with the Counseling Center and the Dean of Students Office and will consult with both offices as needed. While it can be scary to contact the University Police Department in this kind of situation, it is the best call you can make for the safety and security of all involved.
The University Counseling Center has counselors available Monday through Friday, from 8:00am until 4:30pm, to assist students on a walk-in basis.
Counselors also provide consultation to staff who call with questions or concerns. The Dean of Students Office is available to consult with staff members on Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
