Fasting
Fasting is practiced in many religions and spiritualities. It often includes abstaining from food and beverage for a duration of time. An example is during Ramadan when those that are practicing will fast from sunrise to sunset. Students who are fasting may be tired, dehydrated, and hungry especially if they are in class late in the afternoon. Students are encouraged to work with their instructors to discuss any course needs that might be impacted during fasting.
Religious & Spiritual Observances
An adapted calendar of holidays and religious observances during the academic year is available for download. The calendar lists many, though not all, religious or similar observance of faiths.
Spiritual Use of Sage, Sweetgrass & Cedar
In support of the spiritual lives of American Indian/Alaska natives, UND policies allow the spiritual use of sage, sweetgrass and cedar smoke, when used for the purpose of purification and prayer. It is consistent with time-honored cultural, traditional and spiritual observances. More information is provided in the UND Code of Student Life.
