College laboratory courses generally gather students together in the same room at the same time to engage in their laboratory activities under the tutelage of a laboratory instructor. But students in those labs are generally expected to do the laboratory problems as much as possible on their own, or in teams, without the need for instructor assistance or “lecturing”. In other words, labs are intended to provide hands-on experiential learning that compliments and reinforces the learning intended by GEOL101: Introduction to Geology.
That is exactly the way this learning guide is set up. The labs include samples, maps and diagrams for you to work with to gain some personal experience in geologic inquiry. You also will need to refer to your GEOL 101 textbook by Tarbuck and Lutgens, so it’s important that you still have that book.
