About SPAN 102: First Year Spanish II

Spanish 101 and 102 prepare students to achieve basic proficiency in the language and understanding of Hispanic cultures.  Spanish 101 begins this process of building and developing the new language system by engaging students in learning activities that address listening, reading, writing and speaking through independent study. SPAN 102 is the continued study of pronunciation and fundamental grammatical principles through the development of skill in listening comprehension and speaking, followed by practice in reading and writing. By the end of the course, students will have acquired familiarity not only with present tense, but will have learned to use preterite and imperfect tenses to describe the past, They will be able to communicate with basic commands and give advice or directions with the subjunctive tense.

To be successful (which means learning to use Spanish meaningfully in practical situations), you will need to stay motivated and practice regularly each week. 30 minutes a day or more is recommended. Time, dedication, and personal discipline are essential to take advantage of this online opportunity to learn to understand and speak Spanish. Students can reach out as needed to an instructor with flexible office hours throughout the week for email, live phone chats or virtual classroom sessions.

How will the course appear on my transcript?

You may enroll at any time and have up to 9 months to complete this online course. The credits earned will be recorded on your UND transcript based on the date you registered for the course. It will appear on your transcript in the same way as a course taken during a regular semester. There is no indication that the course was taken online or that you completed it at your own pace.
