Developmental Leave

Proposals for faculty developmental leave in the 2023-2024 academic year are invited for submission to the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs on or before December 1, 2022.

The guidelines, proposal form, and applicable policy are available below.

Developmental Leave Guidelines

North Dakota State Board of Higher Education Policy 701.2 permits developmental leave for eligible university system employees. Applications are subject to approval on the basis of Board policy and university criteria that specify considerations for eligibility and outcomes.

  • Eligible faculty who wish to apply for developmental leave projects should first visit with their department chair and dean’s office to verify eligibility, discuss project scope, and ensure sufficient local funding and other resources are available.
  • Formal proposals must be submitted for approval and signature by the chair and dean. Faculty should inquire with their chair and dean’s office about any local deadlines. All proposals are due from deans to the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs on or before December 1, 2022.
  • Proposals will be reviewed for final approval by the academic deans, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the President. Notification will occur early in the Spring 2023 semester.
